The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Andrew Delisle Jr., who passed away on December 22, 2024, at the age of 66. He was the beloved son of the late Grand Chief Andrew Delisle Sr. and the proud father of the current Ratsénhaienhs Iohahí:io Delisle.

Andrew Jr.′s life and legacy were intricately woven into the fabric of Kahnawà:ke′s political landscape. To say that politics ran through his veins is an understatement, as his career was marked by his unwavering dedication to protecting Indigenous rights.

From 1996 to 1999, he served as the Kahnawà:ke Mohawk Government Development Officer, followed by his role as Director of the Lands Unit. In 2001, Andrew Jr. transitioned to a secondment with the Intergovernmental Relations Team. Later, from 2001 until 2007, he served as Director of the Office of the Council of Chiefs, contributing significantly to the leadership and development of Kahnawà:ke, including creating the position of the Political Press Attaché in 2002. His dedication to the people of Kahnawà:ke and his tireless service to the community will forever be remembered.

"Andrew Jr. was a leader and a true advocate for our people. He was a defender and promoter of Indigenous rights and for the people of Kahnawà:ke. He leaves an incredible legacy and will truly be missed," said Ohén:ton Í:rate ne Ratitsénhaienhs Cody Diabo.

In this difficult time, the MCK offers its deepest sympathies to the Delisle family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues who had the privilege of knowing him.

Details regarding funeral arrangements will be made available at a later time.
