03/08/2010
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform the community that Chief John Dee Delormier will leave for Vancouver, British Columbia today as a part of a Youth Delegation to attend the Gathering Our Voices 2010 Youth Conference entitled ‘Our Health and Our Environment’, taking place from March 10th to the 13th. Wahiakatste Diome, Taylor Goodleaf, Kawennahere Jacobs, Brianna Montour, Tehoriwathe Beauvais and Jordan Montour will proudly represent Kahnawà:ke at this event. Part of the Kahnawà:ke Youth Forum initiative, the six members were selected to be part of the delegation on the basis of a 500 word essay on the question “why do you want to attend and what experience do you expect to gain from this conference?” "This is an opportunity of a lifetime for the youth that were selected,” said Chief Delormier. “They'll have a chance to meet other Native youth from across Canada and hear their stories. It is also a great chance for them to represent the community in a positive manner.” The group returns home on Sunday, March 14th. Chief Delormier is expected to return to the office on Monday, March 15th.
