The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke announced that it will donate $8,820 towards the cost of a youth conference to be held from 10-13, Enniskó:wa/March in Vancouver. This year’s conference, entitled “Gathering Our Voices,” will focus on health and the environment. Three males and three females from the ages of 13 to 30 will be selected to participate. Those wishing to participate are being asked to write a composition explaining why they’d like to attend. Two adult chaperones will attend, Linda Delormier and Chief John Dee Delormier. “This is a fantastic opportunity for youth in the community to branch out and network with other Natives from Canada,” said Chief Delormier. “While not strictly a Kahnawà:ke Youth Forum initiative, our participation comes from the fact that young people have been showing a growing interest in becoming involved in Kahnawà:ke’s future.” Chiefs Delormier and Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer have been involved in several Youth Forums in the past several months. Youth interested in participating should contact either chief at 450-632-7500.
