MCK states it support for Kanesatake re: current land dispute
01/25/2010
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform Kahnawa’kehró:non that Chief & Council are strongly supporting our sister community of Kanesatake in the matter of its current land dispute. The MCK is urging the Canadian government to immediately appoint a negotiator in order to resolve the matter with the Mohawk Council of Kanesatake.
A letter is being drafted to this effect.
As well, Kahnawa’kehró:non are reminded that the current measures being undertaken on-site are being conducted in a peaceful manner and that any support from our community must reflect this.
“The land in question is right across the street from the Pines,” said Grand Chief Michael Ahríhrhon Delisle, Jr. “There is no excuse for any level of government – whether municipal, provincial or federal – to be ignorant of the sensitivities involved in this matter.”
