Justice Act Hearings to Continue Wednesday, October 21
10/08/2009
The Interim Legislative Coordinating Committee would like to inform the community that the hearings for a proposed Kahnawà:ke justice system will continue on Wednesday, 21 Kenténha/October at the Karonhianóhnha School gym from 6 to 9pm. Last night’s hearing, which was attended by about forty-five people, addressed the question:
“What issues or concerns should the justice system address?”
At the conclusion of the meeting, there was no consensus reached. Therefore, the discussion will continue in two weeks time. Should this conclude at a sufficiently early time, the third question (“Should judgments, orders and decisions from a Kahnawà:ke justice system be recognized outside the Territory?”) will be addressed. Please note that the next session will begin at 6pm, a half-hour earlier than the first two.
A report on last night’s hearing will be posted next Tuesday on the Community Decision Making Process website ( www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com ) to keep up to date on any and all developments.
