Kahnawake Social Assistance Program Announces Inflation Fund Benefit Usage Plan

The Kahnawą:ke Social Assistance Program of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke is pleased to announce the approval of the Inflation Fund Benefit usage plan during the duly-convened Council meeting held on Monday, December 9, 2024. This comprehensive plan outlines new and continuing benefits and initiatives designed to support community members as they manage rising costs:

  • Winter Clothing Benefit (Available December 2024)
    A Winter Clothing benefit will provide $300 per adult and $200 per dependent on file to help with seasonal clothing needs.
  • Household Essentials Hamper (Available January 2025)
    A hamper containing essential household items, including paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning products, and laundry supplies, will be provided to support families in maintaining their homes.
  • Heating Supplement (Period: December 2024 – March 2025)
    From December through March, heads of households will receive a $100 monthly benefit to help cover heating costs during the colder months. The total amount will be provided as a lump sum payment.
  • Inflation Support Courses (Period: September 2024 – 2025)
    Additional courses will be announced soon, with offerings designed to support clients, including Financial Literacy (in collaboration with the Kahnawą:ke Caisse Populaire) and Your Best Nutrition (in collaboration with Kateri Memorial Hospital Center). Stay tuned for more details.
  • Inflation Benefit (Food and Household Supplies)
    A benefit of $200 per adult and $100 per dependent on file will be provided to help offset the rising costs of food and household supplies. The Inflation benefit will be coming to an end with the last benefit released in March 2025.

The Kahnawą:ke Social Assistance Program is dedicated to supporting members of the Kahnawą:ke community through various financial and social assistance initiatives. The program aims to enhance the quality of life for individuals and families facing financial challenges by providing support during times of need.
