Swimming in Tioweroton suspended due to elevated bacteria levels

The Public Safety Division of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to advise the community that the Falls area and the top and bottom of the First Bridge in Tioweró:ton are closed for swimming due to elevated bacteria levels.

Recent water sampling by technicians from Environmental Health Services (EHS) of Kahnawake Shakotiia′takehnhas Community Services has revealed an unacceptable increase in bacteria and recommends staying out of the water until levels return to what is considered adequate for swimming and recreation.

EHS will test the waters again next week. The community will be kept up to date on further developments.
