03/17/2023

Forwarded on behalf of Multi-Purpose Building Project Team

The Multi-Purpose Building Project Team (‘the Project team’) wishes to announce that the Selection Committee has chosen the architects who will be responsible for the design of the new Cultural Center, Museum & Theatre. Two companies – the award-winning architectural firm Provencher Roy and Brook McIlroy, a company that has worked with several Indigenous communities/organizations – joined forces to bid on the Request for Proposals and were the successful candidates.

“We have a Building Committee comprised of two representatives from each organization: Kanien’kehá:ka Onkwawén:na Raotitióhkwa Language & Cultural Center (KORLCC), Turtle Island Theatre, Tourism and the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke,” said KORLCC Executive Director Kawennanó:ron Lisa Phillips. “We are excited to be getting closer to working towards the final design of the building.”

Additionally, the Project Team is pleased to announce that Louie John Diabo of Diabo Consulting has been selected for the position of Project Manager. He is working on all aspects of the project to bring the project to fruition.

“The Building Committee is excited to have Louie John (Diabo Consulting) working with us, as he comes with the qualifications and experience on large-scale construction projects,” Ms. Phillips added. “His role is a technical project manager, and he will act as the principal technical advisor, committee coordinator, and internal project manager in the realization of the new building, which will be built in the wooded property adjacent to the Kahnawà:ke Survival School.”
