Kahnawake Justice Commission seeks new member

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke wishes to advise the community that the Kahnawą:ke Justice Commission (the Commission) is seeking one community representative to serve as a member of the Commission.
Roles and Responsibilities as a member of the Commission include:
- Providing oversight to MCK Justice Services;
- Ensuring the independence of judges;
- Ensuring the institutional independence of the Court of Kahnawą:ke; and
- Ensuring the reasonable and sufficient independence of members of the Administrative Tribunal.
The Commission meets monthly, with an honorarium provided as per the Kahnawą:ke Justice Commission Honorarium Policy. Eligibility requirements can be found in the Terms of Reference (click here).
Interested persons should submit a letter of intent by Thursday, Ennķska/February 23, 2023 to:

A signed privacy waiver for a criminal background check will be required.

The Kahnawą:ke Justice Commission consists of three (3) voting members, with one (1) non-voting member (the Commissioner of Justice) serving as the Chairperson. The Commissions mandate is to provide oversight to Justice Services by monitoring its activities in matters concerning the administration of the Kahnawą:ke Justice System, and to also ensure that the integrity of the Kahnawą:ke Justice System is protected and defended.
