Barton Goodleaf resigns as Rats�nhaienhs (elected Council Chief)

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawake wishes to inform the community that Barton Goodleaf has resigned from his position as Rats�nhaienhs, effective October 31st, 2022. Today�s announcement comes after his letter of resignation was read into the official record of a special duly convened Council meeting called at 1pm today expressly to address this matter.

Mr. Goodleaf was elected to the position at the July 2021 MCK general election. At the time of his resignation, he was the lead on the Health Portfolio, as well as a member of several other Portfolio teams. Ohen:ton �ien:te ne Ratits�nhaienhs (Grand Chief) Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer said he will be missed.

�On behalf of my colleagues, I�d like to wish Bart the very best in his future endeavors,� she said. �We enjoyed working with him as a member of our team, and I know that he enjoyed the camaraderie that he felt as a part of the Kahnawa�kehr�:non Ratits�nhaienhs. This has been the most cohesive Council I�ve seen in several years, and Bart played a significant role in that.�

As per the standard process, further information on a pending By-election to address the resulting vacancy will be issued by the MCK Executive Office within the next five (5) days.
