No Horsing Around as Sports and Rec announces special equine youth pilot project
10/04/2022
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke’s Sports & Recreation Unit is pleased to announce a unique sports initiative for young persons who are interested in horseback riding, learning about horses, or just hanging around horses. ‘No Horsing Around’ is a pilot project created to bring the opportunity to Kahnawa’kehró:non.
‘No Horsing Around’ will introduce or reintroduce and support the love (and sport) of horses. Participants will learn about the animals from trained and experienced ‘horse people.’
“Horses can provide individuals with responsibility, respect, courage, and enhance presence, grounding peace and spirit,” said Tracey Snow, who is coordinating the project. “Horses are useful for leisure, sport, and therapy.”
The project will introduce persons who have always wanted to be around horses and the opportunity to get up close and personal with these wonderful animals. Those interested should apply as soon as possible, as space is extremely limited:
Registration: Kahnawà:ke Sports Complex
Start date to register: Tuesday, October 11th (8:30am to 4pm)
Limited space: Room for 18-20 applicants only
Duration: October 11, 2022, to March 17, 2023
The program will cover the cost of one (1) lesson per week. Anything over that must be paid by the applicant or parent.
