Recreation Bay Beach remains closed due to high levels of E.coli

08/15/2022

The Public Safety Division of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to advise the community that recent water sampling in the Recreation Bay area continues to show elevated levels of E.coli. As a result, the beach remains closed at this time.

Testing was conducted at the Onake dock area, and those water samples were deemed to be acceptable for continued recreational activities at Onake itself.

Technicians with Environmental Health Services of Kahnawake Shakotiia′takehnhas Community Services will continue to monitor the situation.

Additionally, swimming in Tioweró:ton is now deemed safe, after testing indicated lower levels of E.coli.

Water testing will continue, and updates will be provided to the community once they become available.
