Tioweroton Territory to receive new vehicles

The Lands Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke (MCK) is pleased to inform the community that the Tioweró:ton Department will be securing the purchase of new work vehicles for the Tioweró:ton Territory. Included in the purchase is an ARGO, two snowmobiles, a truck, and a side-by-side.
A recent vehicle assessment indicated that some of the current vehicles have made it challenging to meet the demands of performing duties in Tioweró:ton. The purchase comes at a time when Tioweró:ton has been the site of recent public safety matters that require the Caretakers to access vast distances and difficult terrain, and required borrowing equipment from community members.
The cost of the new vehicles, estimated to be $187,500, was approved by the MCKs Finance, Administration & Operations Committee, and other pre-budgeted sources. This purchase will allow the Caretakers to be able to improve access to the entire Territory, and to provide assistance to Kahnawą:ke Search & Rescue and the Kahnawą:ke Environment Protection Office for their operations in Tioweró:ton.
