The Client Based Services (CBS) Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is pleased to officially announce that Melanie Gilbert has been hired as the new General Manager of the Office of the Kahnawà:ke Kanien’kehá:ka Registry, CBS Unit. Ms. Gilbert began her new duties yesterday (Monday, August 16th).
This move within the Office of the Kahnawà:ke Kanien’kehá:ka Registry is a result of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Election which saw previous General Manager Alan John Rice elected to the position of Ratsénhaienhs (Council Chief). With the changes in the Department there will soon be job postings for the open position of Registrar as well as a post for a second Compliance Officer to address any potential conflict of interest issues in the future.
Ms. Gilbert will be reporting to Alexis Shackleton, Director of CBS.
“We wish both Melanie and Alan John all the best in their new roles,” said Ms. Shackleton. “We appreciate the support of the community while we work on the implementation of the Kahnawà:ke Residency Law.”
