The Kahnawà:ke COVID-19 Task Force has issued Directive #52 to ensure cross-border travelers self-isolate, as per the Kahnawà:ke Emergency Preparedness Law.
“Whether you’re an essential worker or just going over the border to check your post office box, you must self-isolate for the prescribed period of 14 days, as stipulated by the COVID-19 Task Force,” said Chief Peacekeeper Dwayne Zacharie.
“Those in contravention of Directive #52 will face stiff penalties,” he added. “We are prepared to enforce this directive to ensure the safety of our community during this second wave.”
Residents are being reminded that the Peacekeepers receive information from Canada Border Services Agency to ensure follow-up on those re-entering Canada.
Directive #52 is now in effect as a direct response to the dire situation of the pandemic.
