More ACM removal work on the way

11/09/2020

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform the community that further work to remove soil with asbestos containing material (ACM) will begin shortly in the Lot 106 area.

Sanexan Environmental Services, Ind., a company that specializes in the removal of ACM, will be on the Territory to begin preparation work. The entire project should take approximately ten (10) days, weather permitting. As in previous instances, all necessary precautions and processes will be utilized to meet or exceed the regulations governing such matters. The property will be fenced off with tarpaulins to prevent/reduce dust. Roads will be cleaned as needed.

Additionally, an independent company, S-Air, will be taking air samples throughout the works.

All work will take place between 7am and 2pm, with the soils to be transported to an authorized facility off the Territory. A local excavator will be working with Sanexan on this removal. This follows similar work undertaken in June and July. Please note that other works are forthcoming to continue the work to address the matter.

“The Asbestos Working Group is working very hard to resolve this situation,” said Ratsénhaienhs Cody Diabo, who is the lead on the Working Group. “We know this situation is adding the stress that has been brought on by the pandemic, but we are committed to resolving the matter as quickly and safely as possible. It will take time but we are moving closer to an eventual solution.”
