MCK to conduct walk through inspection for ACM at Lot 106 area

10/15/2020

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to advise the community that a walk through inspection will take place on properties in the Lot 106 area to check for any asbestos-containing material (ACM) that may have surfaced during the spring, summer and fall.

The inspection will begin on Monday, October 19th (weather permitting) by MCK workers specially trained in the safe handling of ACM, with all safety guidelines and procedures respected. If any pieces are found they will be properly removed by double bagging the pieces and disposed of at an authorized facility.

The inspections are a follow-up to work that has been done regarding ACM in the area and should be completed within a few days.

“There is very little risk for homeowners and occupants,” said Ratsénhaienhs Cody Diabo, who is the lead on the Asbestos file. “Earlier this summer, while soils were being removed, sampling tests were done to check for asbestos fibers in the air – which indicated there were none present. We’d like to assure all Kahnawa’kehró:non that we’re doing everything possible to keep homeowners feeling safe in their homes and neighborhoods.”

All safety measures directed by the COVID-19 Task Force will be observed, such as masking and social distancing.
