Chiefs Traveling to Wahta for Iroquois Caucus Meetings

Chiefs Marvin Zacharie, Johnny Montour and Martin Leborgne, along with Technicians/Advisors will be attending the Iroquois Caucus, being hosted by the Wahta Mohawks (in Ontario).The meetings begin on Wednesday, July 23rd and are expected to last for two (2) days. They will be leaving this morning.

The main priorities are Land Claims/Grievances and a Tobacco Strategy.

One Working Group will develop a framework to include principles, strategies and processes in regards to a unified approach to Land Claims/Grievances. A second Working Group will develop a strategy regarding the protection of the Iroquois Tobacco Trade.

Other topics to be discussed are; The Auditor General, Matrimonial Real Property, Bill C-30, Status Cards and a potential relationship with the AFN and the Association of the Iroquois and Allied Indians.

Chief Zacharie is expected to return Wednesday evening due to prior engagements. Chiefs Montour and Leborgne and technicians may return to the office as early as Friday, but are expected back on Monday, July 28th.
