Important Notice regarding Quebec announcements

The Kahnawà:ke COVID-19 Task Force wishes to advise the community that it is aware of recent announcements made by Premier François Legault regarding ‘new essential services’ being rolled out Wednesday, April 15th.

The Task Forces has received numerous calls and emails today from community members and local businesses regarding some of his announcements, including the lifting of some restrictions regarding construction.

“We are aware of what Legault has stated, but it needs clarification, as it is not a blanket opening of construction,” said Lloyd Phillips, Commissioner of Public Safety. “We will assess the rationale for Quebec’s decisions, and the Task Force will make decisions that are in the best interest of Kahnawà:ke.”

The matter will be discussed at tomorrow’s duly convened Task Force meeting, and a decision will follow.

“As an added note, essential construction for emergency repairs has always been okay,” Phillips concluded.
