Indian Day School Settlement gatherings scheduled to assist survivors

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke (MCK) wishes to advise community members that three (3) meetings are scheduled to be held in Kahnawą:ke to assist Indian Day School survivors. These will be the first of several to be scheduled in the upcoming months.
Former students of the federally-funded Indian Day Schools during the period of 1920 to 1988, and those representing the Estates of Indian Day School survivors who passed away after July 31, 2007, are invited to attend one of three (3) gatherings to take place at the Step-By-Step Early Learning Family and Wellness Center on the following dates:
- Thursday, 19 Enniskó:wa/March at 5:30pm
- Wednesday, 8 Onerahtókha/April at 5:30pm
- Thursday, 23 Onerahtókha/April at 5:30pm
Participants will receive information regarding the history and background of the claims process, claim eligibility and the claims application process. Participants will also receive assistance for completing their claims. Furthermore, participants will have the option and space to do so privately, if they wish.
Finally, participants will have the opportunity to give their feedback and suggestions about how Indian Day School survivors may be supported. The claim process ends on July 13, 2022.
