Challenge dropped - Indian Day Schools Settlement to move forward

12/20/2019

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that Chief Paul-Émile Ottawa of the Atikamekw of Manawan has decided against appealing the dismissal of his court challenge to the Indian Day Schools settlement.

This means that the nation-wide Class Action Settlement to compensate survivors for harms suffered while attending Federal Indian Day Schools is expected to move forward in early 2020. When the dates are announced forms will be made available for those eligible. Those affected will have two-and-a-half years from the implementation date to submit their claim.

While this is not an MCK initiative, the MCK is committed to ensuring Kahnawa’kehró:non are kept up to date on any and all developments in this matter. A webpage ( www.kahnawake.com/indiandayschool ) has been created by the MCK to assist community members who need any type information on this matter, including correct contact information, websites, and more.
