Proposed Kahnawą:ke Family Homes Law Re-enters CDMP
12/05/2019
The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) would like to inform the community that the proposed Kahnawą:ke Family Home Law (KFHL) has re-entered the Community Decision Making Process as a Type I Law.
The KHFL was created in response to Canadas Family Homes on Reserves and Matrimonial Interests or Rights (S-2) Act and came into force on December 16, 2014.
The KFHL was repealed on January 24, 2018 because it was categorized as Urgent and was required to actively re-enter the Regular CDMP within a year of enactment and failed to do so within that one-year timeframe.
The KFHL Technical Drafting Committee will begin community consultation in the New Year.
