Intense Training at Kahnawake Fire Brigade this week-end

11/08/2019

Forwarded on behalf of the Kahnawake Fire Brigade

The Kahnawake Fire Brigade (KFB) wishes to inform the Community that major training will take place at the KFB this week-end (November 9-10) that will involve controlled fire and smoke situations.

Though not hazardous to the surrounding area, community members are asked to be cautious in the general area of the KFB this coming week-end. The training is not meant for spectators. Qualified instructors will be on hand.

The RISC Simulator (Reading Smoke Concept Ignition) is a thermal simulator that combines safety and performance for live burns in compartments. The simulator’s design re-creates similar conditions found in buildings the KFB will encounter.

The simulator will allow the firemen to observe the different thermal phenomenon they might encounter such as backdraft, flashfire, smoke explosion and the gasification of hydrogen.

Firemen will be taught how to analyze and read smoke, and the use of thermal imaging cameras and nozzle techniques.

“People may see flames and smoke, so we just do not want anyone to be alarmed,” said David Scott, KFB Chief. "It’s intense training designed to give our firefighters simulated situations to prepare them for real ones."
