01/08/2019
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform the community that Ratsénhaienhs Lloyd Phillips will be stepping down as a Council Chief to take a new position with the MCK’s Public Safety Unit.
In a letter sent to Chief & Council yesterday, Ratsénhaienhs Phillips indicated that he will officially begin his new position as Director of Public Safety on Monday, February 4, 2019. He will officially remain as a Council Chief until that time.
He has served a total of sixteen-and-a-half years on Council.
A by-election will be called to fill the vacant seat because more than eighteen (18) months remain in the current term. An Electoral Officer will be appointed, and dates confirmed for nominations and election.
“It has been a challenge and a pleasure serving our Community,” he wrote. “I look forward to continuing working for the community by focusing my efforts on the Public Safety requirements of Kahnawà:ke. Thank you very much for your support and understanding.”
