MCK quashes further movement on Tioweró:ton Road Designation
10/29/2018
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to advise the community that Chief & Council have quashed any further movement on the issue of Road Designation in Tioweró:ton.
The decision, which was unanimous, was made at this morning’s duly-convened Council meeting.
The issue was raised by Ratsénhaienhs Clinton Phillips, who holds the lead on the Lands Portfolio, due to some misinformation that had been circulating throughout the community regarding the potential designation of the main road through Tioweró:ton as a ‘provincial road.’
The Tioweró:ton Committee had voted to bring a proposal to Chief & Council as part of their mandate to address safety issues on the main road. As part of the process, the recommendation would have been brought to Chief & Council for an official Request for Decision.
“Had the process concluded with a Request for Decision to Council, this would have been the outcome as well,” stated Ratsénhaienhs Phillips. “To avoid any wasted time from the technical level, we are advising the community on Council’s decision immediately.”
