Motorists MUST move-over

08/16/2018

Forwarded on Behalf of the Kahnawake Mohawk Peacekeepers

The Kahnawake Peacekeepers would like to remind motorists of the Move-Over Law that requires drivers to leave space between your vehicle and any vehicle that is stopped on the side of the road for emergency purposes.

The Law, which is part of the Quebec Highway Safety Code, is meant to ensure the safety of any emergency responder or persons (maintenance workers, tow truck operators, drivers awaiting roadside assistance, etc) on the side of the road. Offenders are subject to fines.

As a general, motorists must first slow down and move over to the opposite lane (if more than one lane exists) or as far as possible to the opposite side of the road. (See graphic below)

For more information on Quebec Highway Safety Code, please contact the Kahnawake Peacekeepers at (450) 632-6505.
