Community Information Sessions announced for proposed Kahnawake Cannabis Control Law

08/09/2018

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to announce that information sessions have been scheduled for the proposed Kahnawà:ke Cannabis Control Law on August 21st and 28th. Both are Tuesdays.

The meeting will be used to explain the rationale for the proposed legislation, the current draft of the law with community feedback changes, and the upcoming Community Decision Making Process (CDMP) hearings.

“These info sessions are extremely important,” said Ietsénhaienhs Rhonda Kirby who, with Ietsénhaienhs Gina Deer, is responsible for the Cannabis file for the MCK. “Canada’s legalization of cannabis is on our doorstep and, as a community, we have to move forward with legislation that will leave control of the situation in our hands and not that of Canada and Quebec. We believe the latest draft meets our needs, but we still need to meet with the community before we begin work in the CDMP – the actual legislative process.”

The info session will be held from 6pm to 9pm at the Golden Age Club.
