Reminder on Responsible Recycling

The Kahnawà:ke Waste Management Department would like to remind residents of the need to follow the ‘acceptable materials’ guidelines for items deposited in the 360L recycling bins and to be sure recycling materials are cleaned and free of food to avoid attracting rodents while in storage.
Only items described in the list of ‘acceptable materials’ should be placed in the 360L bins:
- Glass Bottles & Jars
- Metal Cans & Containers
- Plastic Containers
- Plastic Bags (wrapped together)
- Milk & Juice Cartons
- Newspaper & Paper products (cereal type boxes are acceptable, while Cardboard is for special collection)
Acceptable materials for the bi-weekly Special Collection (placed beside the 360L bin) include:
- Refundable Bottles and Cans
- Cardboard Boxes (packing boxes and clean pizza boxes)
- Metal
- Electronics
- Used Batteries
- Household Hazardous Waste (paint cans, chemicals, etc)
- Clothing
- Used Motor Oil and Cooking Oil (in original containers)

Unacceptable materials deposited into the bins for collection by the recycling truck can damage or jam the vehicle and cause delays in service. Please recycle responsibly and be cautious of what goes into the 360L bin.
