KMHC Expansion Phase Two Construction, changes to River road traffic
10/19/2016
The Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre (KMHC), EBC Construction and the Kahnawà:ke Public Safety Office would like to inform community members that the second phase of the hospital expansion construction will begin Monday October 24th. A major road reconfiguration will take place on River road that will affect two-way traffic and parking for visitors and clinic patrons.
The following changes will be made: • The section of road directly in front of the hospital will be completely closed to traffic from Monday October 24th to Friday October 28th in order to install a covered walkway between the two buildings. • Because the road will be narrowed following the walkway construction, from Saturday October 29, 2016 until December 2017, traffic will be controlled via a traffic light that will allow alternating two- way traffic in front of the hospital. This method was selected to avoid a complete closure of the road for the duration. • The section of Rabaska road currently closed will be re-opened to traffic. • The parking area directly in front of the hospital will be not available as it will be used for the walkway. • The current staff parking area at the east part of the building and the area behind the EBC trailer will be designated as clinic client parking. • As for staff and visitors to the new section, the KMHC has requested permission to temporarily use the parking area of the filtration plant (several spaces will be reserved for filtration plant staff). • Patients will be moved into the new section and the current in-patient section will be demolished and reconstructed.
The demolition/re-construction is planned to be completed by December 2017.
It is acknowledged that there may be some inconvenience but your understanding and patience is requested. At the end of the construction the community will be better served by these facilities.
