All three Chiefs will be attending the Assembly of First Nations Special Chiefs’ Assembly from Tuesday through Thursday. Grand Chief Norton is also attending the Pre-Assembly strategy and dialogue sessions on Monday.
The theme of the three-day event is “Shaping Our Future: Reconciliation, Rights, Relationships – Closing the Gap.” The agenda includes a call to action regarding the implementation of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s recommendations; the relationship and opportunities with the new Liberal government; nation building; environmental issues; and the revitalization of Indigenous languages. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been invited and is expected to address the Chiefs at the start of the assembly.
