No danger as ship stopped in Seaway

11/20/2015

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke (MCK) wishes to advise the community that a cargo vessel has stopped at the emergency dock across from the old K103 Building and is expected to remain there until remedial measures are taken.

The 736-foot Atlantic Huron, a Canadian-registered self-unloading freighter, was able to dock without incident this morning after a problem was found with its engines. Repairs are expected to take several hours and the ship is expected to leave later today.

The MCK’s Public Safety department has been on the scene and reports that there is no danger to the community, as the ship actually stopped before the issue became a problem.
