Nine Kahnawake Organizations to join forces on local TV channel

Beginning Monday, November 2nd, nine (9) Kahnawà:ke Organizations will work together to coordinate four days of television   content for Kaná:takon Community Programming, known as KCP Channel 300 and 399 (HD) on Paul’s Cable. The Organizations will program the channel from Monday through Thursday, with Paul’s Cable running the rest of the week.

The Organizations are: Kahnawake Education Center (KEC); Kahnawake Fire Brigade; Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services; Kahnawake Youth Center; Kanien’kehá:ka Onkwawén:na Raotitiohkwa Language and Cultural Center (KOR); Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre; Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK); Step by Step Child and Family Center; and Tewatohnhi’saktha.

The Organizations have a joint sponsorship agreement with Paul’s Cable that allows any non-profit person or entity free access to the channel, as well as, the use of equipment (limited) to produce material. The Organizations will have complete control over what content is acceptable on the channel from Monday to Thursday and are also able to submit content to Paul’s Cable for the weekends.

“Partnering with the other organizations to lower Communications costs will greatly benefit us all,” said Louie John Diabo, KEC Director of Finance. "We’re excited to be a part of this initiative and to work collaboratively with other community organizations,” said Debbie Delisle, Executive Director of Step by Step.

"We′re pleased that there is both a community demand and an outlet for television programming related to our unique language and culture," said KOR Director Reaghan Tarbell. "We are happy to have an outlet for community members with an interest in production to increase and showcase their skills,” said Tewatohnhi’saktha′s Barbara McComber.
