Tobacco Burning, Declaration of Office for new Chief & Council tomorrow morning

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to advise the community that the newly-elected Chief & Council will meet tomorrow morning to officially begin the process of beginning the 2015-2018 term of office.
Joseph Tokwiro returns to the Office of Grand Chief after an eleven year hiatus. Arlene Jacobs also marks her return to Council after a nine year absence. The 2015-2018 Council will include five female Chiefs, the highest number ever.
The day will begin with a Tobacco Burning ceremony. Afterward, a welcoming of the new Council will take place, followed by a confirmation of the orientation schedule and a Council overview. Once those tasks are completed, the Chiefs will sign the Declaration of Office and Confidentiality Agreement.
Also on the agenda is discussion/ explanation of the MCK Disciplinary Measures Regulations and a discussion on plans for the upcoming Assembly of First Nations Annual General Assembly being held from July 7 to 9 in Montreal.
