Community Protection Unit cautions against starting grass fires
04/17/2015
The Community Protection Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke, in conjunction with the Kahnawake Fire Brigade and Kahnawake Peacekeepers would like to remind all community members about the dangers of setting grass fires.
Contrary to popular belief, burning the grass does not result in making the grass greener or grow quicker. In fact, it increases the possibility that the fire could become uncontrollable and do more damage to property. Even worse, emergency workers could be injured while responding to a very preventable situation, tying up community resources unnecessarily.
If someone is seen starting fires, please contact the Peacekeepers at (450) 632-6505. Starting grass fires is a crime.
For more information on grass fires contact the Kahnawake Fire Brigade at (450) 632-2010 or the Community Protection Unit at (450) 632-0635.
