Formal Enactment of Amendments to Election Law scheduled for Monday

The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) would like to inform the community that, following last evening’s Final Reading, the Amendments to the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Election Law will be brought to Chief & Council at the Council Meeting on Monday, 2 Enniskó:wa/ March to confirm the Will of the People. Should it pass, the amendments would become law and come into force immediately.
The Final Reading took place at the Golden Age Club on Thursday, 26 Enníska/ February 2015. Once the law was read into the public record, a question-and-answer period took place followed by a formal, unanimous approval of the Amendments by the half-dozen community members present. Community Representatives Lori Jacobs, Joann Patton and Angus Montour signed the Certification of Process.
The Amendments were read into the record by Vernon Goodleaf and Chief Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer on behalf of the KLCC, and Angus Montour, a former Electoral Officer. The proposal was accepted and entered the Community Decision Making Process in February 2012.
