Upcoming Kahnawake Legislative Events for January 2015

The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission would like to update/inform the community that the following legislative events are planned or scheduled for Tsothohrkó:wa/January 2015:
1. January 12, 2015: Mohawk Council Resolution to enable the Coming Into Force of the Kahnawą:ke Justice System Law (usually referred to as the Justice Act) tentatively scheduled to be brought to Chief & Council at Council Meeting for their consideration 2. January 21, 2015: Community Decision Making Process (CDMP) Second Hearing of proposed amendments to the Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke Election Law 3. January 23, 2015: 30-Day Community Feedback Period ends for draft amendments to the Kahnawą:ke Membership Law. Once this is completed, a report will be prepared before the process enters CDMP First Reading
Additionally, the proposal to develop a law to create Tobacco Regulations using the CDMP Urgent Process is currently in the preparatory stages and is expected to enter the Community Consultations phase in early 2015 with the goal of gaining a Community Mandate. The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission is awaiting the final report on the 30-Day Community Feedback Period before announcing the date(s) of Community Consultations.
A proposed Residency Law has been submitted and is awaiting formal approval from the Kahnawą:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission.
