MCK corrects Carl Horn’s misleading information
09/09/2014
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) needs to inform the community that certain statements broadcast by Chief Carl Horn on Paul’s Cable from Thursday, September 4th through Sunday, September 7th demand a strong response.
The statements were in relation to a major resurfacing project on Highway 138 that is set to begin on September 14, 2014. Horn reported that trucks would be using Route 207 when, in fact, based on continued work and negotiation by the Director of the Capital Unit, the contractor agreed to use an alternate route. This was confirmed to Chief & Council on the afternoon of Thursday, September 4th.
As a matter of concern, the broadcasts were continued despite the clear fact that Chief Horn knew that the information he presented was clearly and fundamentally wrong.
“As Council Chiefs we have an obligation to inform our community on issues that will affect them,” said Grand Chief Michael Ahríhron Delisle, Jr. “The information he presented is not only misleading, it was presented in a manner that cast doubt on the integrity of the people he works with. Even when he has new and relevant information, as in this instance, he would rather allow misinformation to continue than to make any effort to correct his mistakes.
The issue was addressed by Chief & Council at yesterday’s Monday Council meeting, with Chief Horn insisting that his statements were only ‘opinion.’
“Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion,” Grand Chief Delisle concluded. “But this is not a matter of opinion, it is a matter of misrepresentation. This job is challenging enough without having someone in a leadership position choosing to engage in such disrespectful and disruptive behavior.”
