Consultant Undertaking Fish Sampling in Community

The Kahnawą:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) wishes to inform the community that technicians with Groupe Hemispheres will be in the Recreation Bay area today through Thursday completing field work related to the 2014 Recreation Bay Species at Risk Assessment. The goal of this project is to determine the diversity and relative quantities of the fish populations within the Bay as well as identify plant species in the area from Onake to the Elder′s Lodge, and up to the Marina on the southern shore of Kateri Island. This work is part of a larger effort by KEPO to characterize the Bay. The technicians will be in the field, with a representative from the community, to trap and assess fish in their natural habitat. They are scheduled to be in the community July 15th -17th, including evening assessments. A follow up assessment will take place in the fall. Dates will be provided when available.
