MCK Executive Team announced

01/08/2014

The Mohawk Council is pleased to announce its Executive Team, which will be in full effect by April 1, 2014.

  • Alana Goodleaf-Rice, Executive Director (incumbent). Placement confirmed September 2013
  • Kevin Kennedy, Executive Operations Officer (formerly Associate Executive Director of Operations & Community Planning). Placement confirmed September 2013
  • Paul Rice, Executive Financial Officer (revised Associate Executive Director of Finance & Administration position, replaces Ryan Rice who previously resigned). Placement confirmed December 2014
  • Richard Basque, Executive Strategic Officer (revised Associate Executive Director position currently held by Tom Morris, who has announced his retirement this coming March 2014). Basque’s appointment will come into effect over the upcoming weeks.
“Although half this new team isn’t really new to the jobs, the work that will be carried out is new,” said Grand Chief Michael Ahríhron Delisle, Jr.  “The combination of experience, youth and determination gives our community the best in terms of continued excellence in not only administration and finance but, more importantly, the vision and guidance in conjunction with Chief & Council to ensure our collective goals are being met. I congratulate the team and have high expectations for their contribution to the future development of Kahnawà:ke.”

The MCK has been undergoing an Organization wide review over the last three (3) years and has resulted with the development of a new internal organizational structure. The new structure required all leadership positions to be re-evaluated, including the Executive positions.

Although similar to their previous roles, the new job descriptions for Goodleaf-Rice and Kennedy will provide for a more aligned partnership in leading the organization. Both incumbents went through a review process to ensure they met the new criteria for the positions. The two combined have over 50 years of experience leading the organization.

The role of the Executive Financial Officer provides for more autonomy and authority to act. “Paul is a very well educated and talented individual that I feel confident will ensure the integrity and professional management of the Community funds,” said Goodleaf-Rice. “The new role of the Executive Strategic Officer, which will be held by Richard Basque is a welcomed addition to the Executive Team. With the ever growing complexity of the issues and matters at hand, he will be in a position to ensure there is strategic alignment, process and structure in the global approach,” she added.

At the time of this release, not all of the leadership positions within the MCK have been completely developed. The Director and General Manager positions that will complete the Leadership team will be finalized within the upcoming months with the intent of beginning implementation in the new fiscal year.
