Peacekeepers to enforce Rush Hour Truck Ban on Montreal-bound Mercier Bridge
08/02/2013
The Kahnawake Mohawk Peacekeepers will enforce a ban on trucks implemented by the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI). The ban on trucks will only be in effect during the morning rush hour on the Montreal bound Mercier Bridge.
As of Monday, August 5, 2013 no trucks will be allowed to access the Montreal bound Mercier Bridge between 05:00 and 09:00, Monday through Friday, August 9, 2013.
“With the end of the annual construction holiday, JCCBI is expecting heavier traffic during the final week of the work blitz on the bridge,” said Chief Peacekeeper Dwayne Zacharie. “The truck ban on the Montreal bound Mercier Bridge will help ease congestion on the 138 detour road and the 132, as well as increase safety during the heavy rush hour period,” added Chief Zacharie.
JCCBI will be installing the necessary signage in and around Kahnawà:ke, informing truckers of the ban, which will be enforced by the Kahnawake Mohawk Peacekeepers.
The ban will only affect truck traffic heading toward Montreal during the prescribed period.
