Mercier Bridge – Complete closure Montreal bound Saturday
02/12/2013
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform road users that the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) will completely close both Montreal-bound lanes of the Mercier Bridge this Saturday, February 16th from 6am to 9pm to carry out repairs on the federal section of the bridge’s roadway.
The repairs will take place at the junction of the two Montreal bound lanes, making it impossible to keep either one open while the work is carried out. It is also difficult and unsafe to run traffic in the opposite direction during the winter on the Kahnawà:ke-bound bridge, as weather conditions may make snow and ice removal operations necessary.
The section that needs repair is currently covered by a steel plate and it is impossible to maintain this situation until spring. Everything is in place to carry out the entire operation in a single day (Saturday, February 16) in order to limit impact on traffic. It is important to note that the bridge’s two Kahnawà:ke-bound lanes will remain open during this period. Road users are encouraged to use the Champlain, Victoria or Jacques Cartier Bridges, or the new section of Autoroute 30 to get to the island Montreal.
The MCK wishes to remind the public that works/closures on the Mercier Bridge are subject to change due to unfavorable weather conditions and it does not take part in the scheduling or cancellation of such works.
The JCCBI is aware of the impacts caused to traffic and appreciates the consideration of road users for the inconvenience. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
