Severe Weather Warning

02/08/2013

The Community Protection Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke  would like to inform the Community of the following severe weather warning, issued by Environment Canada and the Emergency Measures of Monteregie.

Strong northeast winds combined with the snowfall are expected to create a situation that will result in near-zero visibility

A low pressure system from Texas is lying near Lake Erie this morning. This low pressure system will then merge with an intense low pressure system in development over the American East Coast. The snow associated with this system will affect Southern Quebec all day long and a part of the evening. Moreover, a more intense snow band will affect areas near the American and Ontario borders.

Snow amounts will be generally between 5 and 10 centimeters and up to 20 or 25 centimeters near the borders. Due to strong northeast winds with this system, several regions along the St Lawrence Valley will experience blowing snow beginning late this afternoon.
