Chief Lloyd Phillips accepts nomination for Quebec Regional Chief
01/11/2013
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke (MCK) is pleased to inform the community that Chief Lloyd Phillips has accepted his nomination for the position of Regional Chief of the Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador (AFNQL).
He was nominated by Grand Chief Konrad Sioui of Wendake and seconded by Kahnawą:ke Grand Chief Michael Ahrķhron Delisle, Jr.
An election will take place on 30 Tsothohrkó:wa/January, during the upcoming AFNQL assembly.
Ive been involved politically for many years at this level, as Kahnawą:kes representative to the AFNQL, said Chief Phillips. I have decided to challenge for the position because many Native people in Quebec feel there is a lack of strategic leadership and direction, especially in terms of the sovereignty. I am ready to take on that role, should I be elected.
Chief Phillips served as a Council chief for five terms (from 1996 2005). After two years as Public Security Advisor for the AFNQL, he was once again elected to the MCK and is serving his second three-year term. As mentioned above, he continues to be Kahnawą:kes representative at the AFNQL, among his other duties.
Chief & Council wish him the very best in this endeavor.
