11/27/2012

The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission wishes to remind Kahnawa’kehró:non that a sixth community consultation on the proposed Kahnawà:ke Justice Act will be held on Wednesday, Kentenhkó:wa/November 28 from 6pm to 8:30pm at the Karonhianónhnha School gymnasium. Participants are asked to arrive at about 5:45pm in order for the meeting to start on time.

The section on Judicial Ethics is all that remains to be reviewed and/or discussed in this First Hearing. The ‘First Hearing’ process includes the current community consultation sessions.

If needed, an additional community consultation will be held on Tuesday, 11 Tsothóhrha/ December. Upon completion of the First Hearing, the draft Kahnawà:ke Justice Act will be revised to include changes suggested by community members who participated in the consultation meetings. The Second Hearing within Phase II of the process will then begin.

In order to help facilitate discussion, participants are asked to view the draft Kahnawà:ke Justice Act in advance. It is available at the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke main building, the Justice Building (the former Lafleur’s store in the old village area) or on-line at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com.
