Severe thunderstorm watch: be prepared
05/29/2012
The Community Protection Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to inform the community of a severe thunderstorm watch for Kahnawà:ke issued by Environment Canada, effective from 1:45pm until 7pm this evening (May 29th).
During the thunderstorm, there is a possibility of large hail, damaging winds, intense lightning, and a slight risk that winds develop into a tornado.
The following safety tips will provide assistance with your safety should a tornado develop:
• Stay indoors in a well sheltered room that has many walls from the outside (closets, bathrooms, hallways). Basements are the best option. • Stay away from windows. • Do not try to outrun a tornado with your automobile. • If caught outside when a tornado appears, lie flat in a nearby ditch or depression.
More information can be obtained by contacting the Community Protection Unit at (450) 632-0635.
