10/18/2011
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke has announced that the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, John Duncan, will be in Kahnawą:ke tomorrow (Wednesday) to meet with Grand Chief Michael Ahrķhron Delisle, Jr.
It is expected that the Minister and Chief Delisle will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on the Kahnawą:ke/Canada Relations (KCR) that will outline a process for a working relationship.
Chiefs Lloyd Phillips, Martin Leborgne and the entire KCR team have been hard at work preparing the groundwork for this Memorandum of Understanding, said Chief Delisle. Both sides have agreed that we need to develop a different relationship based on mutual respect to properly address the long-standing issues that continue to hinder Kahnawą:kes growth and development.
The Minister is also expected to tour the newly-expanded Water Filtration plant during his visit.
