12/13/2010
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) would like to inform the community that Chiefs Lloyd Phillips and Martin Leborgne will be attending the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) meetings in Ottawa this week. The MCK is especially interested in several agenda items. These include discussions on Land Claims Over $150 Million; Canada’s recognition of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples; and Education. “While the AFN doesn’t speak on behalf of Kahnawà:ke, we still attend some of the meetings as needs arise in order to gather information and to network with other First Nations leaders,” said Chief Phillips. The meetings begin this evening (Monday) and will conclude on Thursday, 16 Tsothóhrha/ December.
